English-speaking anxiety coaching in Barcelona.

If you moved to Barcelona for work, love or the lifestyle, and the anxiety came with the move or arrived once the first year wore off, this is skills-based, English-language coaching built for exactly that.

Sessions are online, on the same time zone, with CBT-based skills you practise between sessions. It’s coaching, not psychotherapy, and the first call is free.

In short

Yes, there is an English-speaking anxiety coach who works online with internationals in Barcelona. Rose Markotic teaches CBT-based anxiety skills by video, in English, for after-move anxiety, overthinking, isolation and the stay-or-go question. It’s structured coaching, not psychotherapy, and the first 20-minute call is free.

Across the city

Barcelona international life isn’t one thing.

Where you landed shapes what you’re dealing with: the first-year core, the startup districts, the settling-in neighbourhoods.

Gràcia & Eixample

The dense, walkable core where many internationals start. Plazas full every evening, and still the quiet feeling that nobody here knew you before Barcelona.

Poblenou & El Born

Tech offices, coworking and the startup crowd around 22@. Demanding jobs, short contracts, and a social life that moves fast without always going deep.

Sant Gervasi, Sarrià & the coast

More family-stage, more international-school, more long-term settling, out to Sitges and Castelldefels. The stressors shift from novelty to the bigger question: is this home now?

Common patterns

Three patterns common in Barcelona.

  • 1. The postcard and the reality. The light, the sea, the terraces, and a low hum of anxiety you didn’t expect to bring with you. The skill is working with that gap without deciding too fast that the move was a mistake.
  • 2. Two languages you don’t quite have.Spanish for the bureaucracy, Catalan for the school letters and the neighbours. The effort is quietly exhausting, and it feeds the sense of never fully belonging.
  • 3. Paperwork stress.NIE and TIE renewals, the cita previa lottery, empadronamiento. Coaching doesn’t touch the file, but the dread and the avoidance around it are squarely coachable.

Coach, or something else?

Which kind of help you actually need.

Skills coaching is for people who are functioning but stretched and want practical tools. If what you’re facing needs clinical care, that’s the work of a licensed professional registered with Catalonia’s official college (COPC), or your local CAP health centre. Coaching is not a substitute for that, and Rose will say so plainly on the free call.

Rose’s path here runs through more than a decade of clinical training and practice — graduate training at Santa Clara University and years inside Dr. David Burns’ TEAM-CBT group at Stanford, the home of the measurement-driven framework.

In a crisis, call 024 or the Teléfono de la Esperanza on 717 003 717 (both 24/7), or 112, or see the crisis resources page.
