Before your call

The Discovery Call is twenty minutes — here’s the beat-by-beat.

Anxious people often dread unstructured calls. So this one has structure. You'll know what's coming and exactly when the call ends. No upsell pressure, no commitment on the call, no homework before.

The 20 minutes

Minute-by-minute.

I keep the call tight because you’re anxious about it. You know when it ends. You know what gets asked. Predictability is the point.

Rose Markotic, anxiety skills coach
This is who picks up — Rose.
  1. 0:00

    Hello and quick orientation

I introduce myself, you introduce yourself. Two minutes, max. We won't do coaching on this call — this is a fit conversation, not a session.

  2. 2:00

    What's bringing you here?

You tell me, in your own words, what's going on and what you want to be different. Specific is better than vague: 'I can't sleep after work meetings' beats 'I'm anxious'.

  3. 8:00

    What you've already tried

Apps, books, prior coaching or therapy, conversations with friends. I want to know what's worked, what hasn't, and what you're already good at. We build on the existing scaffolding — we don't start from zero.

  4. 12:00

How I work and whether it fits

I describe what coaching here looks like — skills-based, time-bounded, practice between sessions. I'll be direct about whether I think this is the right fit, or whether something else is. Sometimes the right answer is therapy, or a medical doctor, or no professional help at all.

  5. 16:00

Your questions, scheduling, what happens next

You ask anything you want. If we're a fit, I tell you what package would make sense and the cost. We don't book the first session on this call — you sleep on it, then book when you're ready (or don't).

  6. 20:00

    Done.

We wrap on time. I send a short follow-up email within four hours with a recap and next-step links. You decide.

Also worth saying

What this call isn’t.

  • Not a coaching session. We won’t do skills work or solve a specific problem on this call. That happens in paid sessions.
  • Not a sales call. I don’t use closing techniques. If we’re not a fit, I’ll say so plainly and point you elsewhere.
  • Not a commitment. You can hang up at 19 minutes and never email me again. That’s a fine outcome.
  • Not clinical assessment. I’m not diagnosing anything. This is a coaching practice, not a clinical one.

How to show up

You don’t need to prepare anything.

You really don’t. Don’t write a script. Don’t make a list. Don’t rehearse what to say. The thing that comes out when you’re not prepared is closer to what’s actually going on than anything you would have prepped.

All you need: a quiet room, a working camera, twenty minutes.

Common worries

Things people ask before booking.

What if I cry on the call?
That happens sometimes and it's fine. Talking about anxiety can surface emotion. I have tissues on my end (figuratively) — you'll have yours. We take a beat, we keep going. The call doesn't end early because emotion came up.
What if I don't know what to say?
Most people don't, at first. That's why I lead. I'll ask short, specific questions to get us started — 'tell me what's been hard this week' is usually a good opener. You don't need to have your story together.
What if I can't afford coaching?
Then this might not be the right call to take right now. I won't be able to offer free or sliding-scale work — that's part of how the practice stays sustainable. But the Discovery Call is still free, and I'm happy to point you to free or lower-cost resources that could help.
Can my partner / friend join the call?
For Discovery Calls, no — it's a one-to-one conversation about whether this is the right fit for you. Couple's work isn't part of this coaching practice; if that's what you need I can point you to options.
Will the call be recorded?
No. Discovery Calls aren't recorded. I take a few private notes after the call to remember what we discussed, but there's no recording, no transcript, and no formal record retained beyond my own scheduling notes.
What happens after the call?
Within four hours you get one short recap email: what we discussed, whether I think coaching here fits, and next-step links if it does. That's the entire follow-up — no email sequence, no check-in texts, no chase. If you want to go ahead, you book from that email. If not, that's the end of it.
